

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful Husband, Brother, Uncle, Nephew and friend Derrick Morris Bright.
Derrick was born in Southville NS January 22, 1968. Derrick passed away suddenly at home on July 3, 2024. Derrick Morris Bright age 56 was one of 18. Derrick was the son of the late Kenneth and Martha (Tynes) Bright, Weymouth, N.S.
Derrick is survived by his loving wife Valarie. Derrick is survived by his loving siblings’ sisters Angelina (Harley), Wanetta, Lorita, Dalena (Joe), Nadine (Glen), Theona; Brothers Alliston (Connie), Randy (Mary), Bradford (Trina) and Harland (Cheryl).
He was predeceased by Brothers Michael, Kendall, David, and Dean; and sister Cerena.
Although Derrick did not have kids of his own, he has been a father figure to many and there is nothing he would do for his family. Derrick had many nieces and nephews that he loved spending time with. With special nephews Jason Bright and Michael Tynes. And will be sadly missed by all including long time friend Alana.
Derrick “Ballhead” worked at various jobs before he became ill. He loved playing bass guitar, singing country music, fishing and hunting. Everyone who knew Derrick knows how much he loved Christmas, and having a spotless home. Derrick did not shy away from helping anybody or any animal when he was able. Derrick was outgoing fun loving and a jokester. You would find Derrick and his wife Valarie every night at 7:00 pm enjoying a coffee at Timmies.
Visitation will take place at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on July 15, 2024 from 1pm-2pm and the service to follow at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Derrick’s memory may be made to Sickle Cells Disease Association of Atlantic Canada. We would like to thank the amazing health team, 5th Floor, QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax.
