

Ryan, Doris May Theresa (Tilley), 80, passed away in hospital on Friday, August 17, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Halifax, Doris was the daughter of the late Edwin (Ted) Tilley and Sadie Catherine (Buckley) and, along with her father, was raised by foster parents Bill and Em Ryan. Doris lived all her life in northend Halifax and was a former member of Saint Joseph’s Church. Doris began work as an usher with the Halifax Metro Centre, Trade Centre and Exhibition Park in August 1990 and worked her last shift on July 8, 2012. She also volunteered her time at the QEII and VG Hospitals since January 1990. Doris was a faithful listener and proud supporter of Northwood Manor’s Channel 10 music station. She enjoyed spending time with friends at CPO Mess Stadacona and Windsor Park, Dartmouth Sportsplex and the Dartmouth Masonic Centre, playing cards, darts and bingo. During the past 50 years, Doris so loved spending her summers at her cottage in Mount Uniacke, with her wonderful neighbours Roy and Bev Roberts, and as a summer parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi. Doris looked forward to her annual trips with Frances to visit her dear friend Dianne in Cape Cod. Doris is survived by her sons Joseph Patrick, HRFES (Joanne) Power; Michael Thomas (Wanda); and daughter Theresa Marie (Edward) Boutilier ; granddaughters Jylene, Brittney, Andrea and Tracey; great-granddaughters Hailey and Emma; great-grandson Logan; nieces and nephews; and family in London, England. She was predeceased by Cyril Francis (Bud), her loving husband of 49 years; sister Annie in infancy; brother Edwin Tilley Jr (Sonny); foster brothers Bill, Fred and Ted Ryan; sister Mil (Molly) Sherlock. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 20 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, August 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor St. Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at St. Theresa’s Church, North St., Father Roberto Donato officiating, with burial following in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
