Douglas Clifford Spencer

Doug was born to proud parents Tom and Evelyn (Gardiner) Spencer on January 5, 1945 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He excelled in school, especially in math. So much so, that he was able to graduate early, attend a year at Xavier Junior College (now Cape Breton University) before heading to Acadia University where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce.

He obtained a position with Sydney Steel Corporation where he spent his very early career. Doug was then hired at NS Power where he held numerous positions, most recently as Manager of Corporate Services.

Doug loved sports – particularly football, hockey and baseball. In his younger years, he was a highly regarded tennis player as well. He knew a lot about each of those topics – you wanted him on your trivia team for any sports categories. Doug was keen for information, especially current affairs. And Saturday afternoons were spent watching all the cooking shows on PBS.

He did a lot of travelling in his younger years, especially to Barbados and various spots in the Caribbean. This was generally with a core group of life-long friends. Oh, the stories they could tell.

Doug was good, honest, and fair and had a sharp wit. He always supported those who were less fortunate.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janice Henderson, as well as numerous cousins, including his cousin/sister Raylene. He has joined his favorite furry friend, Casey, who Doug mentioned had been leaning on his shoulder to comfort him in his last days.
