It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Noble, aged 90, in Halifax, Nova Scotia on December 28th after a short illness. Marion was an accomplished nurse, educator, wife, mother and friend and she will be missed by her family and many friends. Predeceased by her brother Marvin, sisters Marjory, Hope, Doris and Wilma, she is survived by her husband Ted, children Richard, Janet and Nancy, her granddaughter Bella and step-grandson, Jesse.
Marion was born in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan in 1929 and grew up on the family farm. Her mother moved the children to Saskatoon in the late 1930s to ensure they got a proper education. Marion attended Nutana Collegiate and later the University of Saskatchewan, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While at University she met her future husband, Ted Noble and they were married in 1953.
Marion and Ted moved to Wadena after their marriage, where she worked as an RN and eventually become the Head Nurse at Wadena Hospital. In 1960, they relocated to North Battleford. Marion and Ted had a rich life in North Battleford, raising their children, spending summers at Jackfish Lake, and winters skiing at Table Mountain all the while building friendships that persist to today. Marion returned to work full time when the family moved to Saskatoon in 1978. She retired from teaching nursing at Kelsey Institute in 1990.
Marion’s ability to seamlessly balance her professional life with a commitment to her family, friends and community was unique among her generation. In addition to influencing generations of young people in the nursing profession, she was an empathetic and supportive person to all. She volunteered her time to many charities including UNICEF, United Way, and Jubillee Homes, to name but three. Marion was also a mentor to other young women through her work with CGIT.
When Ted retired in 2003, Marion and Ted left the province both of them had lived in their entire lives and moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, to live on a beautiful golf course overlooking the valley. Again, they made many friends and spent summers in BC and winters in Palm Desert. Eventually, they moved to White Rock to be closer to family and in 2016 relocated to Halifax with Nancy and Joe.
In addition to her career and community service, Marion enjoyed her life through a variety of hobbies and interests. Travel with friends and family created many memories. Annual family ski trips to the Rockies, travel to Europe and South America and cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean, and Baltic Sea increased her knowledge of the history and cultures of the places she visited. She loved music, fine food and wine. She was also a great cook with signature dishes like her cheeseball and roast pork with peanut butter.
It was Palm Desert, California, however, that brought her the most joy. Marion and Ted spent over 30 winters in the desert. She loved the warmth of the sun, golf, hiking, shopping, bridge with friends and an active social life. The family spent many holidays in California over the years and are grateful for those memories.
In all the important ways, Marion had a remarkably successful life – a satisfying career, a long and happy marriage, a close family and legions of cherished friends. In relatively good health to the end, we can celebrate and hopefully emulate such a rewarding life.
