Age 72, passed away suddenly at home on May 20, 2018 in Halifax. Clare was born on August 15, 1945 to Frances Marie (Sweeney) and Frederick (Ted) Macdonald in Kentville.
She graduated from Cornwallis District High School, the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing, BScN from Mount Saint Vincent University and did post-graduate work at the Nova Scotia Hospital. She taught nursing at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing (Toronto) and the Victoria General. She also worked at the Waterville Hospital, the Nova Scotia Hospital, and Abbey Lane. Clare served as President of the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
She is survived by: her husband Kevin and sons Joseph and Brian; her siblings Joan, Peter, Fred (Gordia), Ron (Elaine), Stephanie (Peter), Vince (Cealy), Brian (Kathy); her in-laws Paul (Birgitte), Marilyn (Richard), Cheryl (Terry), Ron (Denise), Mary Lee (Guy); her aunt Sr Fleurette and uncle Hugh (Andrea); many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Wilfred and his wife Anna.
Clare enjoyed attending her book club, playing cards, knitting, walking in nature, touring the backroads of Nova Scotia by car, and hosting family gatherings. All her life she enjoyed spending time at Hall’s Harbour and Huntington’s Point. She had friendships that lasted decades. She was a wonderful wife, mother and sister. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation is Friday May 25 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Cruickshank’s funeral home. Service is Saturday May 26 at 10 am St. Thomas Aquinas Church Halifax. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
