Frances Lillian Thomson, Age 106
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Frances Lillian Thomson on Sept. 27 at Northwood Center. She was born in Halifax to Albert and Lillian (Awalt) Davie on June 24, 1917. She was the last surviving member of the Halifax Explosion.
Frances was truly one of a kind. We know she would want us to mention that she kept her house immaculate - she took pride in her home. She was always helping people out even when she had little herself.
Frances loved playing bingo. She made many taxi rides to the Halifax Forum to try to make her fortune. She was the first tenant to move into McKeen Manor when it was built in 1980. Her next move was to Northwood Center in May of 2022 at the age of 104. Life there was an adjustment for Frances but she was quick to make friends especially with her roommate Effie. There was a bit of action in their room with music playing and Frances playing the Kazoo or the spoons. Good memories.
Frances was predeceased by her husband Garnet and her sons Ronnie and Bobby. Also by sisters Fonnie, Eileen, Kathleen, Millie and brothers Percy and Clarence.
Frances is survived by son David (Wife Laurie) granddaughter Vesta, grandson Aidan, great granddaughters Amelia and Julianna. Also by her niece Sharon and nephews Ronnie and Dennis.
A very special thank you to all the nursing staff on 3C at Northwood Center. Your kindness to Frances will never be forgotten.
A service will be held at Cruikshank Funeral Home at 2666 Windsor on October 11th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
