It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Gwen Brault
age 67, of Halifax unexpectedly on April 1, 2015 at the Halifax infirmary, QEII.
Born August 13, 1947 in Shelburne, NS, Gwen was the daughter of Roger and Doris (Hogg) Brault.
Gwen worked for over thirty years at Maritime Tel and Tel. Since her retirement she volunteered with seniors, first at Parkland and then as part of Northwood's Telecare Program calling 60+ seniors every Saturday morning.
Gwen was a remarkable, independent woman with an indomitable spirit and an unwavering optimism. Gwen led her life without acknowledgement of her physical limitations. Gwen had a large circle of friends and if you were lucky to be one of them you had a staunch ally. Gwen loved her family and in particular her niece and nephew Paige and Brent Hicks. Her trips to Prince George for Christmas were always a highlight of the year.
Gwen loved to travel and after retirement pursued this passion more vigorously. Gwen was an avid reader and library user, enjoyed lunch and celebrations with other retired MT&T employees, games and puzzles, talking about her cats, and the day she would win the lottery.
Gwen is survived by her brother Dennis (Barbara Campbell), of Halifax, sisters Christina (Dana) Hicks, of Prince George, BC and Linda (Barbara Bassett) of Brampton, ON, niece and nephew Paige and Brent Hicks, aunt Marion Hogg of Shelburne, NS, several cousins and dear friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank's Funeral Home, Halifax where visitation will be held on April 7, 2015 between 6 - 8 pm. The funeral service will be held April 8, 2015 at 11:00 at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place. Family burial in Shelburne at a later date.
