

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Helen MacDonald (Power-Shanks) on June 1, 2026. Helen was born on December 19, 1939, in Lower Ship Harbour, Nova Scotia, to the late Eldred and Marie (Murphy) Power.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur MacDonald, and by her sons, Dwayne, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Kenny.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever, including her sons John, Kevin (Sandra), Rick (Kelly), Paul (Ryan), and Stephen (Susan), as well as her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Power. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis and Noreen, and her brothers Eldon, James, Victor, Kenneth, and Joseph.
Helen was a proud grandmother to Samantha, Margaret, Anthony, Johnny, James, Dewayne, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Tylor, DJ, Jamie, and Travis, and was blessed with many cherished great-grandchildren whom she adored and loved dearly.
For many years, Helen worked at Coombes Restaurant on Gottingen Street, where she was known for her dedication, hard work, and friendly nature. She made many lasting friendships throughout her years of service.
Helen enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She loved bowling, playing cards with family and friends, and relaxing with a beer or two while cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays. Her warm smile, quick wit, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank all those who provided care, support, and friendship to Helen throughout her life.
A funeral service to celebrate Helen's life will be held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home on 2666 Windsor St. on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at 11:00 am.
Though she is no longer with us, Helen's love, laughter, and kindness will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
