MOMBOURQUETTE, Irene Mary – Died on 21st August in Arborstone Enhanced Care at the age of 94. Born in Canso, Nova Scotia in 1925 she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Adeline (Fanning) Berrigan. She was predeceased by brothers Patrick, Jack, Dempsey, Herbert & Bernard Berrigan and sisters Pauline Lendrum (BC); Theresa Fitzpatrick, Evelyn Kavanaugh, Helen Mack, Frances Cuvelier and Ruth Gerrior (all of Halifax); daughter-in-law Lynn Keeping, husbands Russell Halliday and Raymond Mombourquette. Irene spent many years working for Sears until she “retired” to raise her family. She had many hobbies including lawn, alley and carpet bowling. She enjoyed playing cards, often with dad and friends/family/neighbours; she was often caught cheating but would always blame her poor vision! Following Ray’s retirement they took many cruises to the Caribbean and annual pilgrimages/bus tours to Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Ray & Irene loved nothing more than a gathering of friends, whether a foursome of the “guys” for bridge or hosting a large group of family and dear friends at the family home on Quinn street, with sing-a-longs, dad telling his corny jokes and mom’s famous meat pies baking. Irene was a member of Saint Agnes Parish. She was a founding member of the Daughters of Isabella (KofC council 1097) and volunteered for many years with Ray at Arborstone Enhanced Care. She was most proud of her children and her faith…..Irene never missed weekly mass; she and Ray spent every evening praying the Rosary together. She was a woman of absolute conviction, great faith and tremendous kindness. Sometimes mothers who give up careers to raise their children, make lunches every day for their husbands and children and willingly help at a moment’s notice to assist and care for their families and friends don’t make the same social impact as those who work outside the home, it is wrong to think that they contribute any less. Mom gave the greatest gift of all in applying her time, talents, good humour, love, energy and wisdom to raising her family, for which we thank her every day. In 2015 Irene was diagnosed with Dimentia and was placed in long term care at Arborstone Enhanced Care; the 3rd floor staff were family to all of us and treated mom, Ray, Dan & Bernadine with much love and compassion. Special thanks to Rose, Tammy, Carol Anne, Jeff, “Mel”, Jeffrey, Sue, Amanda, Trina, Ellen, Jill, Catherine, Edwina, Dustin, Adrienne, Amy, Dave, Ruel, Katie, Janice, “Darnelle”, Donna & Jessie. Survived by daughter Bernadine Halliday and son Daniel; granddaughters Mish Mannette and Tiffany (Sam Brison); sister Jean (Buddy Kelly); great-grandsons (Braedon & Jayce) and great-granddaughter (Nova); sisters-in-laws Marlene & Jean Mombourquette and Patsy Berrigan-Langille; brothers-in-law Ron Mombourquette (Patricia) and Bernie Wilson, many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, Tuesday, 25th August from 2 – 4 pm & 6 - 8 pm, mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, 26th August at 2 pm at Saint Agnes Church, Mumford Rd, Halifax.
