

He was born in Halifax, NS on April 11th 1949, to the late Douglas and Myra Oakley (nee Bourgoyne, later Hopkinson). Survived by his loving wife of 33 years Rosalind Parker-Oakley, his daughters Taryn and Desiree (Delvane), and his pride and joy were his grandchildren Taisen, Harlem and Amira who knew him as “Gramps”.
He is also survived by his brothers David (Sharon) and Michael (Evelyn), sisters Sandra, Sharon (Terry) and Susan (Harry), his brothers-in-law Mark (Susan) and Shawn (Sandra) and sisters-in-law Tanya and Rebecca, and several nieces and nephews; Godchildren Rodney Fraser, Lisa Hatch and Nicole Marcotte; special nieces, Monique Oakley and Jade Parker; and special daughters Jaiah Paris and Jayla Verney.
In Jack’s earlier years, he worked as a rigger, a car salesman and licensed hairdresser. Jack also worked at the World Trade Convention Centre and Department of National Defense for many years-- up until his retirement, where he was introduced to a special friend Dennis “Bambi” Richardson. He was baptized at New Horizons Baptist Church, formally known as Cornwallis Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed being in a basketball gym and on the sideline of a football field. Watching his girls and grandson play were special memories he often shared.
He enjoyed golfing with his buddies and their yearly golf retreat, the Superbowl parties with the “Superbowl Club” and the time he spent as a coach with the Halifax Raiders. Jack shared a special friendship with Rodney Allison for 60 years, often not seeing one without the other.
Jack was predeceased by his loving parents Douglas and Myra, stepfather George Hopkinson, brother Howard “Howie” Oakley, his wife Donna, and his father-in-law Harold “Buddy” Parker and his mother-in-law Geraldine(Howe)Parker whom he loved fiercely.
Cremation has taken place, with visitation being held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home Wednesday October 8th , 2025 6-8pm.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 9th , 2025 at 1pm at New Horizons Baptist Church with Rev. Lennett Anderson officiating and Rev. Grace Skeir assisting. Burial to be held at a later date. Repast to follow at the Army Navy Air Force Club, Maynard Street, Halifax.
His family would like to thank the staff and nurses on 4.2 and 8.2 of the Halifax Infirmary, and an even bigger thank you to his CCA Peter and his family doctor Alec Falkenham for the care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations can be in memoriam to New Horizons Baptist Church.
