James Robert Mercer passed away peacefully in his home on January 17, 2026.
Jim was predeceased by his Mother Alice and Father Robert, his brother Darrel, and his beloved daughter, Debi-Lee. He is survived by his siblings Billy, Gerry, Perry, Joanne, and Cindy; his life partner, Sharon Power; his stepchildren, Michelle and TJ; and his grandchildren; Jessica, Gage, AJ, Anthony, and many others, each of whom he loved deeply and helped raise. His grandchildren were truly his world.
Jim was a long-time member of the YMCA, where he loved to work out, followed by a stop for a couple of blue beers on his way home. He enjoyed playing Proline with his brothers and cherished the simple joys of everyday life. Some of his favourite moments were spent taking his grandchildren on the bus to the Commons, the waterfront, or just wherever the day took them.
He loved playing cards, listening to Elvis Presley, the movie Grease, and never came home without a treat for his grandchildren. Jim showed his love through presence, routine, and quiet consistency, always showing up, always caring.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his steady nature, and the deep love he carried for those closest to him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, memories, and generations who were shaped by his care.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.
