It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of Kathleen “Kay” Duffett, age 92 on May 3, 2020, at Northwood Manor. Kay was born on August 12, 1927 in Halifax to Thomas and Albina (Cyr) but spent her early years on the Magdalene Islands. Kay was predeceased by her husband Henry Thornton Duffett July 9, 2011.
Kay worked for many years in the laundry at the IWK Hospital and worked with the cleaning crew at Nova Scotia Province House for over 30 years. She was famous for her hand-cut homemade french fries; neighbourhood kids would beg to be asked over for lunch.
Kay will forever be remembered by her two sons Henry (Joanne) and Thomas (Shelagh), grandchildren Jennifer, Jason (Ashley) and Hayley (Nick), and great grandchildren Riley, Zachary and Reese and brother Paul (Debby) Boudreau and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kay enjoyed watching TV especially golf, Coronation Street and General Hospital. She was a great knitter and would spend hours playing card games on the computer. She always was ready to go to Bingo or play a good game of cards like crib, 45s and Skipbo at home. She loved when her family and friends visited her at Northwood. She enjoyed being taken for for rides around the building in her wheelchair. Her favorite place in Northwood were the windows on the 9th floor looking out over the MacDonald Bridge and the Dockyard where her husband worked for many years. Kay was excited and happy to meet the latest addition to her family, 6-week-old great granddaughter Reese on February 28,2020.
Kay was predeceased by her siblings; Yvonne (Roland), Edith (Jack), Isabelle (Jim), Linus (Germaine), Evangeline. Viola (Russell), Bertha, and Lucy (Ray) and brother Cletus in infancy, and great grandson Clark in infancy.
A celebration of Kay’s life will take place once it is safe to gather (due to Covid19 virus restrictions at this time). The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and care givers at Northwood on 1C and 2C and 11 Manor for the wonderful care they gave Kay during her stay there.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to: Northwood Foundation, Alzheimer Society or the Diabetic Society.
