

Freeman, Leona Reva, passed away in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on February 15, 2015. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, September 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Myer and Dinah Pliskow. At the age of nine, she moved with her family to Halifax in 1937, where she spent the rest of her life. Surviving are her son Larry (Myra), Halifax, and her grandchildren Daniel (Sarah), London, England, Jonathan (Cyrelle), Toronto, Debra (fiancée, Douglass), Boston, great granddaughters Isla and Halyn Freeman, Toronto, and sister: Joyce (Mort) Gordon, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, life mate of 63 years, Harry. Leona was known by many for the years she worked in Halifax at Shades of Faces, and the gift shop, A Step Up. Over her lifetime, Leona was actively engaged in her community. She was a member of sisterhood of the Beth Israel Synagogue and an active member until her last years in Canadian Hadassah Wizo, serving as Halifax Chapter President, Regional Chair, and a member of the National Executive. She was an active member of the Art Sales and Rental Society of the Art Gallery Nova Scotia since its inception, and Co-Chaired their Antique Sale at The Lord Nelson Hotel. She also served on the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Arthritis Society, the Auxiliary of the IWK Health Centre, and the Ostemy Society. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. Leona loved people and was very social. She had friends of all ages and kept in touch regularly with them all. Her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she will be sadly missed. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Parkland at the Gardens, and a very special thank you to all of her doctors over the years and the medical and nursing staff of 8.4 of the Halifax Infirmary. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 17th at Cruickshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, with Internment to follow. The family will sit Shivah at Century Tower, 1074 Wellington St., Apt 403, on Tuesday evening, 7-9pm, Wednesday and Thursday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, Friday, 2-4pm, Saturday evening, 7:30-9pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm
