Lorraine (Dunn) Casey, 88, passed away quietly in her sleep early in the morning of February 14, 2024 after a long battle with dementia, at Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax.
Born in Halifax, Lorraine was a daughter of the late Richard Dunn and Beatrice Rennie, and step daughter of the late Myrtle (Verge) Dunn.
She grew up in the central part of the city, attending Oxford School and St. Patrick’s High School. Before her marriage she worked for Simpsons.
Lorraine was very social and spent many years volunteering for Northwood, St. Vincent’s Guest House, Spencer House, Hope Cottage and many church associations. She was a 55 plus year member of the CWL (Catholic Women’s League). She was a faithful parishioner of St. Stephen’s Church in the north end for many years, and could be found at any event they hosted, especially if it involved music. She loved animals, especially cats, concerts, figure skating, and never missed the Nova Scotia Tattoo. Bowling was her sport of choice and she belonged to neighbourhood leagues for many years. Every nice Sunday afternoon in the summer was spent at the Public Gardens with her long-time friend Helen, enjoying the flowers, ducks, people and band concerts.
Lorraine met Warren, at the St. Joseph’s CYO through mutual friends and a love of dancing, they were married in 1960 and moved to the North-end, where she lived until her diagnosis with dementia in 2016, when she moved to Arborstone. There she continued to enjoy the music and dancing until very recently.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Warren, daughter Rose (Rob), son Mike, sister-in-law Janet, brother-in-law Freeman (Ruth), sister-in-law Joan, sister-in-law Edna, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, grand-daughter Jenn, brother Nelson, twin sister Loretta at birth, brothers-in-law Earl (Teresa), Denny (Evie), Jerry, Pat, sisters-in-law, Kay (Don), Shirley (Carl), and Judy, nephews Kevin, Rick, Timmy, Wally.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cruikshank’s Funeral
Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Lorraine loved bright colours, so don’t be shy.
