Margaret passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 18th at Hospice Halifax in Nova Scotia at the age of 93. She was born in Birmingham England, the youngest of 7 children to loving parents Alfred and Sarah Anne Siviter.
Despite many challenges in life including living through WWII, rationing and immigrating to a new country as a 24-year old newlywed, Margaret showed perseverance and effervescent optimism. Despite sadly losing her husband in 1989, Margaret continued to live a full and happy life. She embraced new adventures, kept and formed new friendships, and always remembered to bring her camera along wherever she went.
Margaret will be deeply missed by those who knew her including Joan who played piano for her Keep Fit and national dance classes in Postwar England, her Canadian pen pal and close friend for over 80 years Patricia Stefan, husband Paul, daughter Paula and the Stefan-Hudson clan, the Belmont Arms community including Louise, Martha, Margie, Robyn, and Grace, her friends at the Waeg, Heart for Life at St Mary’s and the NS Symphony, as wells Olga, Joe, and Julija from Manulife and DUCA respectively, and Dr Daniel French from the VG and Drs Connidis, McIntyre and the incredible team at Hospice Halifax. Margaret leaves behind daughters Anne, Susan and Elaine, son-in-laws present and past, extended family and 5 grandchildren Elizabeth, Kieran, Quinton, Anthony and Matthew, all of whom she loved and who loved her in return.
An intention prayer will be read at St Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Halifax on October 24th at 10:30 am and Margaret will be laid to rest with husband William at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill Ontario in a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Halifax (www.hospicehalifax.ca/give or by calling 902-446-0929) in Margaret’s memory and in appreciation for the compassionate care that enabled Margaret to end her life with the same dignity and grace with which she lived it.
