96, Halifax, passed away October 30, 2013. Born in Halifax 1916, at the age of one Marg was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. When Marg was 18 she started teaching. She always loved writing and helping others so teaching seemed like a natural fit. When Marg was 25 she married her husband John (deceased) who was visually impaired. She worked for the Fraser Group which her husband started and then later joined the Canadian Council of the Blind. Marg was involved in many volunteer programs for 66 years and was a full time volunteer until the age of 93. At Northwood, she planned bingos and ran crib games for 28 years. She was awarded Maritimer of the week in 2009 as well as several lifetime achievement awards. She volunteered with Legion of Mary, CNIB for 66 years, and received the gold medal award for Toastmasters. While her children were young she ran Girl Guides through the church as well. Marg has been heard to say, “Seniors are happy playing a game of cards instead of sitting in their rooms. That makes me happy. You can sit in a chair and think awful things or you can get out of that chair and do something worthwhile.” Volunteer work kept her going, and it kept her happy.
Marg had four children, Joan Ainsworth, Judy Rogers and twins, Paul Ainsworth and Paulette Currie (Jim Currie). Marg also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cared for dearly; Saleema, Michelle, Christina, Paul, Jennifer, Everett, Martin, Sarah, Noel, Richard, Ryan, Hailey, Ethan, Kayla, Jacob, Emma, Samuel and Kaitlynn. Also survived by longtime friend, Louis Sampson, and close family friend Paulette Tanner.
