Mrs. Marjorie Charlotte Fraser Murphy

MURPHY, (Fraser) Marjorie Charlotte— Passed away December 2, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Inverness, May 10 1911, she was a daughter of Charles Henry and Charlotte Fraser (Higgins). As a young child, Marjorie moved to Boston, Mass., with her family, where she resided until her late teen years. She married her true love, Neil Jerome "Jerry" Murphy, November 7, 1946, in New Waterford where they resided before moving to Inverness and Port Hood. They were transferred to Halifax in 1960, where Jerry continued his career with the Royal Bank of Canada. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marjorie was a kind, generous person with a wonderful sense of humour and a great thirst for life. She loved to ice skate, ballroom dance, sew, oil paint, and knit. In addition, she was a great Toronto Blue Jays fan who also gave generously of her time as a volunteer for many charitable organizations. During her earlier years, she worked at Woolworths Dept. store as a Department Manager and for Robert Simpson. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star MacLeod, Chapter 13 of New Waterford. She is survived by daughters, Mary Nurse, Patricia Matthews; grandchildren, Robert Nurse, Laura Nurse (Craig Layton); great-grand children, Justice Nurse and Adelade Nurse-Layton, and many adored nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jerry; sisters, Mary Cumming, Anna Mae Fraser, brothers, William, Stuart, and in infancy, Charles, Henry and Robert. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Ernest Johnson for his dedication and care to our mother over the years. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St., Halifax, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday. Reception to follow. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in memory of Marjorie may be made to Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
