It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Martha Migas. She died peacefully on April 5, 2013 surrounded by loving family.
Martha was born in Paparis, Greece on June 15, 1926 to George and Konstantina Kakamousias. She came to Canada in 1957 sponsored by her uncle, Nick Demopoulos, in search of better opportunities. Martha married Louis whom she loved dearly, on November 30, 1958. They were married for 54 years until Louis' passing in November 2012. For 30 years she worked at the family owned Tasty Food Restaurant where she met many people whom she still considered friends decades later.
Martha enjoyed cooking and always made sure everyone was well fed, even packing lunches for work each day. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and people watching. She always looked forward to going to Tim Horton's for her daily outing and socializing with everyone along the way. Martha loved her children very much and wanted her family to be together as often as possible. She always took care of them, and they, in turn, cherished her. Her grandchildren whom which she shared a very close relationship were her pride and joy and they brought her great happiness.
She had a deep faith in God and was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church. Martha was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her uncle, Nick Demopoulos. She is survived by her son, Christos; daughter, Maria (Louis) Tasiopoulos; grandchildren, Veloudo, Martha and George (Meredith Dignan); brother, Konstantinos (Antonia) Kakamousias; sisters, Vasiliki (late Gerasimos) Dimitropoulos, Matina (Emanuel) Xidos, Angeliki (Kostas) Karlos, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Funeral Service will be 1pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, Purcell's Cove Road, Halifax. Father Panayiotis Maropoulos officiating. Burial to follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church.
