Mary Jo, the youngest of three daughters, was born in Toronto, Ontario, to James Crosskill Mackintosh and Josephine Anna Balfour. In 1958, her family relocated to Halifax, where she would live for the remainder of her life. She attended Sacred Heart School of Halifax and earned her Nursing degree from Dalhousie University in 1975, subsequently spending the following years working as a Registered Nurse.
Mary Jo was known as a genuinely kind, caring, gentle, and thoughtful person. She possessed a ready smile and would happily strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved her family, friends, cats, music, flowers, and the ocean - in that order. She was also a dedicated member of Gilbert & Sullivan and many other singing ensembles, most recently The Second Chance Singers.
Mary Jo is survived by her children, Jennifer MacGregor (Bruno De Deckere) and Daniel MacGregor (Jennifer Aragon); her sister, Suzanne Margaret Rosson (Philip); and her nephews, Tom and Michael Rosson and their families. She is also remembered by her former spouse, Clive MacGregor. Mary Jo was predeceased by her eldest sister, Edith Grace (Gay) Mackintosh, and her father and mother.
A memorial service will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home at 2666 Windsor Street in Halifax on May 16 from 12 - 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nova Scotia SPCA are appreciated. We would also like to thank the staff of Metro Community Housing Association (MCHA) and QEII hospital who cared for Mary Jo in her final years and days.
