Born in L’ardoise, Cape Breton, she grew up in Halifax during the Halifax Explosion.
She was a daughter of the late Angeline (Mombourquette) and Ben Briands and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Nelson (Buster)Levy of Levy’s Coal, Victoria Road; her son, Francis; her sister, Mildred (Campbell); her brothers, William, Joey, Clifford, Francis and Clarence.
She is survived by five daughters, May Walkden, Bernadette (Clarence) Briand, Cape Breton, Theresa (Bernie) Keizer, Hammonds Plains, Linda(Ronald) Walsh, Halifax, Mary Ann (Frank) Cameron, LaBelle; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.Better known as Mum, Mum Mum or Mum Mum May, she adored her family and was very proud to have participated twice in succession of five generations. Her humourous, witty joke sharing personality, the love of music, bingo, fine clothes and jewellery, dolls, ornaments and bath mat sets, made her special.
Cape Breton was still her home which she loved to visit, especially, the “Picnic” visiting relatives and digging clams. She was there for the Opening of the Canso Causeway, where her brother, Joey, was killed while walking along the highway.
Special thanks to all the staff at the Windsor Elms. They took pride in their care, patience and special needs of our mother. The fun filled recreation staff and volunteers created an exemplary atmosphere. They encouraged mom to take part in bowling, art classes, bus trips, bingo and entertainment such as dressing up for Halloween, some of which she had never done before. Thank you Beth, Tina, Ann and staff for all you have done for our mom.
