Michael Eldon Ford
9 January,1955- 23 November, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Michael Eldon Ford, 69, of Halifax passed away peacefully at home on November 23rd, 2024. Born in Halifax he was the son of Marion (Hartling) and Murray Ford. As a boy Michael spent his years growing up in Yankeetown, Hammonds Plains, a spot that held a special place in his heart until his final days. He often reminisced of these times, telling his grandchildren stories about catching rabbits with his siblings or helping his mother fix things around the house. At the young age of 13 Michael left school to start working in carpentry and what would later become one of his biggest achievements, the cabinetry business. In 1997 Michael and his former wife Patti Ford opened a successful kitchen cabinet business, Patti’s Kitchen and Bath Design. Michael mentored his sons Mike and Derek and passed on the business to which they now successfully run.
Aside from his outstanding career as a small business owner and cabinet maker Michael also enjoyed travelling, boating, ATVing, and most importantly to him- spending time with his grandchildren. Michael’s love for his children and grandchildren shined bright and he was never shy to tell them how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. In his final days he loved hearing stories about what his grandchildren were up to and would often laugh out loud. Michael led a courageous battle with dementia in his final years, never letting his illness affect his positivity and sense of humor.
Michael is survived by his sons Mike (Susan) Ford and Derek (Krista) Ford and daughters Tammy (Scott) MacLeod and Jennifer (Wouter) Roos, brothers Murray, Robert, Billy, George, Paul, Peter, and Jamie, sisters Irene, Carol, Joanne and Debbie, his beloved grandchildren, Justin, Sarah, Lauren, Emma, Liam, Kailyn, Makenna, Alyssa, Branson, and Arlo, great grandchildren Connor, Breah, and Jaxon. He is predeceased by his father Murray and mother Marion.
A public visitation will take place on Thursday November 28th from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home (2666 Windsor St. Halifax, NS), with the service on Friday November 29th at 11:00 am, also at Cruikshank’s.
In Lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
