Age 76 of Halifax passed away peacefully at home August 17th, 2022. Born January 16, 1946 in Digby, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Donald MacNutt and Greta MacNutt (Woolaver).
Michael met his wife Cathy while both were attending university, they soon eloped and moved to Halifax. Michael and Cathy had four children and a loving marriage of fifty years. Michael was an original stay at home dad, manning the household while providing support for Cathy as she advanced in her career. Michael cared for nine kids including his nieces and nephews and their friends, preparing lunches and planning and participating in their after-school activities.
Michael was engaging to both the young and the old. He recognized what was of interest to whoever was in his company. He was appreciated for his unique perspective and was rarely the cause of a boring conversation. He was a good listener if the occasion called for it but never shied away from expressing his opinions. He was funny, witty, thought-provoking, and incredibly observant, whether discussing sports, politics or everyday life. He was kind and caring and provided a comfortable place to visit for those who knew him. Michael was an artist and a creative thinker and passionate about all forms of art and sports. He was a very proud husband, father, uncle, and grandfather to Zoë and Max. He lived his life his way and we are very thankful that he did.
Michael is survived by son Justin (Miriam), Halifax; daughters, Jessica and Alexandra (Thomas), Halifax; and son Nick (Kim), Calgary; sisters Judith Alcorn and Rosamond Hope; brothers Adrien (Peter) MacNutt and Paul (Alexander) MacNutt; grandchildren Zoë and Max; and many nieces and nephews.
