Norma Theresa Anderson

Anderson, Norma Theresa, age 81 of Halifax passed away April 24, 2014, at home. Born in Arlington, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Florence (Fougere) Poan. Norma spent her early years in Poulamon, Cape Breton, and moved to Halifax in 1957. She worked at Sears Catalogue Shopping, and later was known as the Avon lady. She enjoyed her many trips to the cottage on Lake George, her winter home in Florida, and most of all, her trips back home to Cape Breton with her family including the “Twisted Sisters.” She also enjoyed many hours playing cards and Yahtzee with family and friends; particularly, Helen.

She is survived by her husband, George “Andy” Anderson; daughters, Gail (Tim) Bookholt, Lower Sackville; Pat LaPlante, her best friend, Halifax; sons, Tim (Janine) LaPlante, Kentville; Dwaine (Martine) LaPlante, Calgary; sisters, Shirley (Doug) Ernst, Calgary; Carol (Phil) Shotton, Calgary; brother, Dominic “Chet” Poan, Los Angeles; additional brother, “Bob,” Los Angeles; eight grand-children, Nicole, Chad, Adam, Jennifer, Michael, Jacqueline, Adam, Todd; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Lynn Anderson, London, Ont.; brother-in-law, Gary (Susan) Anderson, Halifax. Norma was predeceased by her parents-in-law, George and Doris Anderson; nephew, Troy Shotton.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 27, 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. in Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Bayers Road, Halifax, with Father Roberto Donato presiding. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date.
