Of Hammonds Plains, passed away on March 4, 2016, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax May 2, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Thomas A.L. Sweet and Winnifred (Callin) Sweet. As a young girl Tricia was active in Guiding, ballet, and camping. She was naturally artistic (friends of the young Tricia may remember The Snoopy Club for arts and crafts). Her creative interest continued throughout her life as Tricia participated in dancing, singing, painting and photography. She volunteered for many years with Guides Canada. Tricia believed everyone had a chance at a full life. Early intervention for children with developmental delays was to be the focus of her academic and professional life. She completed her BA (1978) at Mount Saint Vincent University. In 2011 she completed her MA in Early Childhood Studies and was honored with the MSVU Senate Award of Distinction as well as the Lt. Governor's Award for Enriching the Lives of Youth. Tricia married Stephen Morse in 1981. They were a couple joined at the heart and their shared values of family, kindness, togetherness and fun wove together the fabric of their joyful marriage. The couple moved to Edmonton where Tricia continued her work with children. Upon returning to Halifax in 1985 she joined the Progress Centre for Early Intervention where she was initially the Program Director and then in 1993 became the Executive Director. Tricia championed the development and implementation of programs for early intervention in Nova Scotia and was a tireless advocate for families and children in need of early intervention services. Through her caring enthusiasm she had a positive impact on hundreds of families. She shared her knowledge and taught seminars at the Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education.
Tricia loved to keep a beautiful home where she made a warm welcome for everyone. Family pets were always an important part of Tricia's life as were neighbourhood card parties and bonfires. She was very outgoing and enjoyed a broad circle of friends. Tricia enjoyed touring in "The Little Car" and on the back of Steve's motorcycle. Tricia was well-known for her warmth and an excellent sense of humor, with an occasional silliness. She was both kind and determined. Tricia's courage and positive attitude after her cancer diagnosis remain inspirational. We have lost a bright light. She is survived by her loving husband, Steve; son, Alex (Morgan); daughter, Kelsey, Halifax; brother, Tony Sweet (Kathi); sister, Pamela Sweet Smith; sister-in-law, Pam Fairclough
(Chris); nieces, Holly Huett, Heather Fairclough, Alison Sweet, Lexi Sweet; nephews, Will Smith, Adrian Sweet, all of Halifax; special cousin, Anna Harvey, Victoria, B.C. A celebration of Tricia's life will be held in the multi-function room Rosaria Hall, Mount St. Vincent University Campus, on Saturday, April 9, between 1 and 4 p.m. Friends are encouraged to bring a written remembrance of Tricia for the family to treasure. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team on 7A the VG Site, QEII, for their exemplary care and compassion.
