

Born August 8, 1925 in Halifax, he was the son of the late Randall Joseph and Mary Lousie (Madden) McCarthy. Ronald was the last surviving member of his family.
Ronald worked for 17 years with Halifax Naval Fire Department and Air Port Fire Department. He worked for Brinks Canada for 29 years including full and part time. He was a member of Ward Officer and Sergeants’ Mess of C.F.B. Halifax and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Branch #27. He was also a great fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Red Sox.
He served in World War 11 with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and took part in the Liberation of Holland. He also served in the Korean War with The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.
Ron is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elsie (Russell); daughter, Laura McCarthy; sister-in-law, Ella May McCarthy and nephew, William.
He was predeceased by sisters, Hilda (Sister Mary of St. Anthony); Helen Pittman; Vera McCarthy; brother, William; two brothers in infancy; uncle, Monsignor W.V. McCarthy “Father Will”.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be 7-9 PM Wednesday, July 21 at Cruikshanks Halifax Funeral Home, 2032 Robie Street, Halifax with Funeral Mass Thursday, July 22, 10AM from Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 6039 Normandy Drive, Halifax. A reception will follow the service. Interment in the Last Post Columbarium at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ronald may be made to The Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Charity of Your Choice.
