Roy Chesley Ball

Roy Chesley Ball, 64 of Halifax passed away June 15, 2011 at the Palliative Care unit of the Victoria General Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Jessie (Goodridge) and William John Ball of Rencounter West, Newfoundland. Blessed to have found him are his wife Mary Ann O’Sullivan and her children Michelle Malloy (Dan Bishop), Rachelle O’Sullivan, Rob Hennessy (Peg), Dennis Hennessy (Rosa). Roy had a special love for his grandchildren MacGregor, Madeline, Thomas, Dylan, Brogan, Sophia (and Zeke, Sam, Tess who are welcoming Poppy to heaven along with his much loved cat Taffy). Roy was predeceased by his parents but lovingly cared for by his mother’s sister and her family: Louise (Ouie) Goodridge and Cyril Cross; their son (cousin/brother/friend to Roy) David Cross and his children Jeffrey, Timothy and Michael; Shirley Cross and her children Kevin and Tanya, and Linda MacMillan (Malcolm) and her son Matthew. Roy was also close to his cousins Ken and Claude Ball, Sally (Ball) Durnford and Vera LaFresne. Also holding a very special place in Roy’s heart and life are his best friends and chosen sisters Jana Stein and Dawn (Cross) Woodman. He is survived by both his and his wife’s large extended family and many friends. All who knew Roy loved him. Roy’s home was always the hub for family activity with many people coming, going and staying. He thrived on being part of it all. Roy was a caregiver by nature. He spent the last part of his career with Regional Residential Society giving to others. By being open to the unpredictability of life, Roy lived wholly, with intention, joyfully, and to his fullest human potential. There will be a memorial service followed by a reception on Wednesday, June 22nd from 7-9PM at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax.
