MacDonnell, Sarah Grace (Ferguson) of Halifax passed away on February 22, 2018 at the age of 90. Grace was the beloved wife of 66 years to Gerald (Bud) and proud and loving mother to Barbara MacDonnell-Covey (Frank) and Sandra, grandmother to Clint (Brittney) and Dustin (Lisa) Covey, and great grandmother to Sam Covey.
She is also survived by sisters, May (Don Nauffts) and Helen Lutz and many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Joanie and Paula.
Grace is predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Sarah (Leet) Ferguson; her sisters, Margaret, Christine and Esther and brothers, Tom, George, Grant and Charlie.
Grace was born in North Intervale, Guysborough Co. Grace spent her working years at HMC dockyard and at Simpsons (Sears) developing lifelong friendships which continued until her passing.
Grace is remembered by her family as an avid traveler, gardener and shopper. Grace’s travels took her to many locations including Alaska, Florida, Cuba, London, and all across Canada. Known as an avid shopper, Grace enjoyed the hunt no matter if it was one of the many trips to Bridgewater with her daughters, flower shopping or a regular trip to the superstore. Grace was a Frenchy’s aficionado, always looking for the latest and stylish deal.
Grace passed her love of gardening and flowers to both her daughters. She loved to tend her gardens both at her home and at her cottage at Lake Charlotte. Her love of flowers was not specific, if it was colourful or pretty it all went into the same bucket.
Special thanks to the staff at 7.2 Halifax Infirmary especially Lorna, Therese and Courtney (Enfield Girl) for their continuous care. Also Rev. Sean Handcock for his visits to mom the last couple of weeks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 6-8 at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 1pm from Hope United Church, 3022 Connaught Ave, Halifax followed by a reception. Burial will take place at a later date.
