Sharon Elizabeth Hallam died at home in Halifax on Apr.28, 2026. She was born Oct 21, 1950 in Wales, immigrating to Canada as a child. She wore many hats in her lifetime. She was a nurse, a social worker, a teacher, a gourmet cook and so much more. In retirement she dabbled in travel planning. With her late husband Andy's money she devoted herself in the last decade to helping others through philanthropy. She was actively involved in the Ukrainian community sponsoring many families to come here to live. She found them accommodations, employment, medical care and educational options. She never took no for an answer. Wherever she saw an injustice she would try to right it. She lived without prejudice.
When she and Andy first came to Nova Scotia as transplants from Toronto they settled in Musquodoboit Harbour where they were when Andy died in 2013. A few years later she moved into Halifax. Sharon relished eating out and shopping. If you opened a new restaurant or a food service she was sure to be there ASAP. How many times we've gone to a place where they told us Sharon was their first customer. She loved supporting local businesses.
She is survived by her son Daniel Legault and his partner Rebecca Brook of Trenton ON plus a host of friends from coast to coast.
After a lunch of lobster and champagne with friends, Sharon passed with the assistance of the wonderful MAID program she embraced. The inscription on the tombstone of her and her husband reads "It's a good life if you don't weaken". She laughed and told stories until the very moment of her death.
As we her friends mourn her passing, the words we repeat to each other are "I've never met anyone like her in my whole life". Sharon, the collective you created is going to miss you until the end of our days.
Cremation will take place and interment will be in a private service at Fairview Lawn cemetery.
