PATTERSON, Sheila Barclay – 85, of Halifax N.S., formerly of Oakville Ontario passed away June 19, 2010 in the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born in Wapella, Saskatchewan, she was the daughter of the late George McDonald Shand and Clare (Barclay) Shand. Sheila was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (1942-1946). Post war she married and became a homemaker and a mother. She was kind, gentle, and true with a fearless side that refused to quit. Her sense of humor, quick wit, and story telling abilities are to be forever remembered. Everyone who met Sheila would always say what a sweet person she was, and the many people she touched, loved her. Sheila was warm, engaging, and interested in all. She saw the good in people and generously gave of herself. She enjoyed her condo in Oakville, gardening, visiting, and putting around. She also enjoyed her many furry friends. In the hospital, Sheila shared beautiful memories of her Suite at the Berkley (Green St.). Sheila is survived by her daughter, Heather Rea (Steve Jensen), she was a most special Grammie to Robbie MacGregor (Tiina Johns) and Andrea MacGregor. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Shand, brother Alistair Shand (Joyce), all of Red Deer Alberta, nephew David Shand and family (Michigan), nieces Marilyn Shand and Leslie Shand (and their families), all of Red Deer, Alberta. Sheila is predeceased by her husband William Patterson, brother James Andrew (Jimmy) Shand, son-in-law, Dr. Peter MacGregor and brother-in-law James Patterson. A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 29th at 11:00am at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, Robie St., Halifax followed by a reception. Officiating, Rev. Gary Myatt. With thanks to the staff on 7.2 (Halifax Infirmary) for her care before she moved to V 5 East. The compassion given to my mother in her final days in the Veteran’s Building was so appreciated. Special thank yous to her friends in Oakville, who were so good to her and to Sheila’s Committee who loved her so much. You know who you are and God Bless you all.
