Virginia Katherine Ferguson

Ferguson, Virginia Katherine (nee Rowland) passed away at the QE II Health Centre in Halifax on February 14th, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer L Ferguson, her parents Pleasant and William A Rowland, brother Don Rowland and sister Mary Rowland. Virginia graduated from Kanwha County Eastbank High School and New River State College (now West Virginia Tech.) in 1926. She subsequently completed graduate studies at Marshall University. She taught high school English and Commercial Business for 14 years in West Virginia, and later for 22 years in Clearwater, Florida. She married Elmer Ferguson on October 18, 1984. They lived in Halifax during the summer time and they spent the winter months at their residence in Dunedin, Florida. Virginia was a fine woman with a keen intellect and a natural charm. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her as a gracious ‘Southern Belle’. Special thanks are given to Dr. Koller, and other medical professionals during Virginia’s recent stay in hospital. And also thanks to home support staff, in particular Judy and Liz. Their care and compassion were exemplary. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax . Visitation will be at 10 am Tuesday February 19th, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 am. Interment to follow in the early afternoon at Holy Trinity Church Cemetery, Tangier, Nova Scotia. Donations may be made to any charity of choice.
