At the age of 83, it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law and friend on Monday, July 23, 2018 at his home in Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late William Henry and Doris (Osborne) Adams of Halifax. Bill loved his family deeply, adored the love of his life Alice and was very proud of his two children Kellie and Bill Jr. He adored his two granddaughters who he spent much time with, imparting so much of his knowledge and experience, helping to shape them into whom they are today. He loved the outdoors, and had a passion for boating; enjoying tuna and mackerel fishing on his boat the Baka, great times in Wedgeport and the many corn boils on McNabs Island. He looked forward to the trout fishing trips to “Secret Lake” in the earlier days with his son Bill and his buddies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and looked forward to his annual salmon fishing trip to La Poile, NF and going for a sail and racing on Bill Jr.’s boat. He loved spending time in the summer with his family and friends at the cottage in Seafoam and tending to his veggie garden, always competing with his Seafoam friends on who had the nicest tomatoes. Bill loved that Kellie and Chris and his two grandchildren had a cottage close to them and enjoyed watching them grow up. He spent many weekends in the winter at the hunting camp with some of his best friends and son-in-law Chris. Bill enjoyed the family holidays in the spring to Siesta Key, FL and his walks on the white sands of Crescent Beach.
Bill lived life with no regrets, and was ambitious. At the age of 14, he was a Cadet Major in the Canadian Army Cadets. Bill graduated from St. Mary’s University with his Bachelor of Science Degree, and then went on to graduate from Dalhousie Dental School in 1963. He was a member of the Canadian Dental Association; a member of the Canadian Association of Dental Consultants; past President of the Canadian Association of Dental Consultants; a member of the Nova Scotia Denturists Committee; a member of the Nova Scotia Dental Association; and an Assistant Professor at the Dalhousie University Dental School. In 1994, Bill received a Fellowship from the Academy of Dentistry International. He also enjoyed golfing for many years and was a member of the Avon Valley Golf Club. Bill was also very proud to be a lifetime member of the Purcell’s Cove Social Club.
He practiced dentistry until his early 50’s and then semi-retired to pursue dental consulting, something he enjoyed very much. Bill served as the Dental Consultant for Nova Scotia Medical Services Insurance Plan, the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services, Maritime Medical / Medavie Blue Cross, Canada Life Assurance Company, and the Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. He had great respect for his profession and thoroughly enjoyed the people he worked with throughout his career.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Alice (Mitchell) and his children, Kellie Siddle (Chris) and William Adams (Lynne Simmons). Bill will also be lovingly remembered by his two granddaughters, Meghan and Abigail Siddle. He is survived by his sister Gwendolyn Wilson, brother Cecil Adams (Marie Smith) and his cousin Mae Pentz. He is predeceased by his parents, William Henry and Doris Irene Adams.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax.
