He was born on March 2, 1926 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to the late Frank L. and Margaret (nee Snyder) Herb. George served as a Radarman Third Class in the United States Navy during World War II. He returned from the service and married Gertrude Mease on November 30, 1946. George worked as a machinist in his early years, a skill he enjoyed throughout the rest of his life. George attended Berean Bible School, graduating in 1956. Following his schooling, he served as a pastor in the Bible Fellowship Church denomination for nearly two decades. Before retiring in 1989, George worked at Pinebrook Bible Conference. George was blessed with five children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Gertrude, his daughter Sheila (Ronald) Turner, son George Herb, son James (Pamela) Herb and daughter Elizabeth (Charles) Riczko. George was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice Meitzler. A family-only service will be held at the Rose Hill Funeral Home.
