

Jean L. Hurd, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born on February 18, 1931, to parents Fred and Minnie (Pennington) Hammel, Jean lived in Hamilton, Ohio all her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Bill Hurd; her son, Jack (Debra) Newkirk, two grandchildren, Todd (Jeanne) Newkirk and Taylor (Erica) Newkirk, six great grandchildren, her devoted sister, Ann (Melvin) Brown, brother-in-law, Bob (Flo) Hurd and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Warren Hammel, brother Robert Hammel, her twin brother Jack Hammel, infant son Michael Hurd and her in-laws William and Myrtle Hurd. Throughout her long illness, Jean was an example of courage and strength. She was a kind and loving person and cherished her family and friends. Nearly everyone she met commented on her beautiful smile and her inner and outer beauty. A 1949 graduate of Hamilton High School, Jean worked at Fernald Feed Materials Production Center until her retirement on January 1, 1990. The family wishes to thank all those involved in her care.
