Jennie was born on December 10, 1941 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, the eighth child of farmers and teachers, Oscar Scott and Verna (Cummins) Scott.
Graduating from Crab Orchard High School in 1959, she continued the family tradition of teaching by pursuing a degree in Education at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. After marrying, she moved to Sharonville, Ohio, eventually settling in Fairfield Township and graduating with a B.S. in Education from Miami University Hamilton. Her first teaching assignment was that of first grade teacher at Lakota City Schools. Her second year began a new assignment in Fairfield. Jennie retired in 1992 from Fairfield City Schools where she taught second grade for 32 years, first at Central Elementary, then South Elementary. She was a caring person who was loved and respected by her countless students. Described as “giving a new meaning to the word teacher,” she practiced encouragement and dedication to her chosen field. She was a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
When younger, Jennie played piano for her church, by ear, and throughout her lifetime, was a supportive and loving wife to her husband of 64 years, Freddie R. Pruitt. She was a great cook making elaborate spreads of food for her grandchildren, who she enjoyed caring and cooking for often. Jennie and her only daughter, Diana, were very close, and spent hours talking and sharing experiences, with an occasional tropical trip thrown in for good measure. Jennie also enjoyed watching broadcast sermons on Sunday morning adding to her faith in Jesus Christ. After caring for others, her family had the honor of caring for her during her illness, and her devoted husband, Freddie, made sure she was comfortable and took immeasurable lengths to ensure she felt fully loved and safe as her health declined.
Preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Verna, brothers, John and Nolan Scott, sisters, Lucille Adams, Louise Reynolds, and Ruth Scott.
Jennie is survived by two sisters, Velda Herald and Dorothy Thacker; sister-in-law, Betty Scott; 12 nieces and nephews; her husband, Freddie R. Pruitt; daughter, Diana (Jerry) Caldwell; grandchildren, Catherine (Clément) Deleaval, Anna Caldwell, and David Caldwell; great grandson, Timothée Deleaval.
