Alexander Leitch Gracie

Beloved husband of the late Barbara (nee Kenesky) of 50 years. Loving father of Scott (Shelley) and Alexis Kaine (Ron). Cherished Papa of Mathew, Dylan and Jaxxon. Dear brother of Lindsay and predeceased by his sisters Lilias and Jean. Sadly missed by family and friends. Born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Retired from Stelco after 39 years of service.

Lex became involved in the credit union movement in 1961 as a Director of Stelco Credit Union. Dedicated to his passion, he devoted 34 years of service to the movement holding numerous positions culminating in Chairman of the Board for CUMIS Life Insurance Company, and President of the World Council of Credit Unions. As President, Lex represented 34,000 Credit Unions with 73.5 million members across 79 countries.

Lex was active with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 622 for 27 years, committed to the annual Poppy Campaign. He was also a Mason at Battlefield Lodge, Hamilton Masonic District B.

Special thanks to all the staff at Ridgeview Long Term Care (Gage House) for their compassionate care and patience. Our appreciation to Doris. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Monday, October 17 from 6-9 pm and on Tuesday, October 18 from 9:30 am until the time of Funeral Service at 10:30 am. Interment Mountview Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation.
