PIETRANGELI, Americo Giulio April 1, 1926 - March 1, 2011 Peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital on March 1, 2011, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late Maria Filippa (nee Sabetti). Devoted father of Mario and his wife Alicia Niles, Rosanna and her husband Christopher Patterson, and Pia and her husband Byron Smith. Treasured Nonno of Rebecca Niles and Luca and Dante Pietrangeli. Son of the late Paolo and Angela Pietrangeli and brother of the late Francesco Pietrangeli. Cherished brother-in-law of Filippo and Judith Sabetti, Gina and Aldo Ciccarelli, and Gioconda Pietrangeli. Much-loved nephew of Renato and Marietta Capobianco, and cousin of Renato and Marisa Capobianco, Giovanni Capobianco and Anne-Marie Jones, Giacomo and Bice Carosi, Giulio and Lorraine Carosi and the late Benito and Janet Carosi. Americo was the fond uncle of Lorena and Tom Wagar, Patrizia Ciccarelli and Scott Terhaar, Leonardo and Samantha Ciccarelli, Leonardo and Nicola Sabetti, late nieces Rosina and Nora Sabetti, and Sandra, Angela and Mirella Pietrangeli. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends, neighbours and all who knew him. Our sincere thanks to neighbours Tom and Kim Mlekus and Bruce Armitt for the friendship they extended to Americo over the years, and to the caring and compassionate staff of 4 West, Hamilton General and Palliative Care, St. Peter’s Hospital. A special thank you is also due to Dr. Patrick Magloire and the entire Cardiovascular team at Hamilton General. Americo was born in Tussio (L’Aquila), Italy. He came to Canada via Halifax in 1951 and, following a brief time in Edmonton and Elliott Lake, he settled in Hamilton. He married his beloved “Lippa” in 1954 and together they built a happy life for their family. Always skilled with his hands, Americo was an expert stone mason and bricklayer, an avid gardener, a passionate wine-maker and an experimental cook, an interest he discovered later in life. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Regina Mundi Church, 631 Mohawk Road West, Hamilton on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington. If desired, donations in memory of Americo may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation c/o Dr. Patrick Magloire.
