The art community mourns the loss of Amy Ferrari, a radiant force in contemporary painting whose joyous vision and transformative work brought colour, hope, and connection to countless lives. She passed away peacefully with her husband of 38 years by her side. Her loss leaves a deep and lasting void in the hearts of her family, friends, and colleagues.
Born with a boundless imagination and a lifelong fascination with line, shape, colour, and pattern, Amy dedicated her life to celebrating the beauty found in the overlooked and the everyday. She believed that “joyous, vibrant potential thrives in everybody, everything, and every situation,” a philosophy that guided her creative practice and infused her paintings with optimism and warmth.
Amy was a beloved member of the Hamilton and Kitchener–Waterloo art communities, known for mentoring emerging artists, participating in local exhibitions, and contributing generously to the cultural life of the region. Friends remember her as a warm and encouraging presence whose belief in art as a force for positivity was truly infectious.
Amy leaves behind her beloved husband, Marco Ferrari. Dear sister of Daniel Dodson and Robert Dodson. She is survived by her mother Alice Dodson and is predeceased by her father Joseph Dodson.
A Celebration of Life to take place at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Friday, January 9 from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local arts organization in Amy’s name, supporting emerging artists and community art programs — a tribute in keeping with her lifelong devotion to sharing the transformative power of art.
