Antonia was born in Treglio, Chieti, Italy to Natale Antonio Ucci and Leonina Berghella. Together with our late father Amedeo, they immigrated to Canada in 1951. Antonia learned to be a seamstress at a young age. Dressmaking was a passion that she developed into an occupation both at home and with local businesses. She initially worked at the Imperial Cotton Company, then at St. Joseph’s Hospital laundry department where she repaired the Sisters’ habits. She later held seamstress positions for Robinson’s Department Store and Stitch It. Her sewing machine and cutting table were always ready for any garment construction or repair that her extended family brought along. Antonia’s legacy includes passing along her baking and cooking skills to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As I say good-bye to you my family,
Know that a mother can only hold your hand for a time,
But I will hold your hearts forever.
Don’t cry over my absence as
I’ve been blessed by God and I will pray for you always.
I will love you from Heaven as I’ve loved you on Earth.
Flowers may wither, tears may dry,
But prayers are gathered by God.
