At St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton on May 22, 2012, with family surrounding him, the Lord took Art to be reunited with his wife Velma of 63 years. Art was a strong family man and loyal friend. He is survived by his three children Patricia (Ron) Hansen, Lynda Cook, Gordon (Deanna) Cook. “Papa” is also missed by his grandchildren Sherri (Paul) DiBartolo; Ron (Kathleen) Hansen; Lauren, Elysse, Olivia, Isaiah and Abigail Cook; and great grandchildren Larissa, Rachele, Hailey, Caitlyn, Ashley DiBartolo and Mitchell, Hannah and Laura Hansen. Art will also be missed by extended family and friends, especially his loyal companion Honey . Art was born April 23, 1925, in Dundas to Thomas and Elizabeth Cook. He attended Central HS Tech and served briefly with the Army. A long-time employee of J. Bertram & Sons/O & K Dundas, Art also served as shop steward and President of the local during those years. He retired when O&K closed their doors in 1986. Throughout his years he established long lasting friendships and relationships. Art took pleasure in being MC at any function seemingly always having a joke for any occasion and was quick to share with anyone who would listen. His friendly, affable manner made him the perfect Santa at many Corporate and family Christmas celebrations. Frank Sinatra, Vera Lynn and the sounds of Big Band brought nostalgic joy for Art. His bi-weekly lunch meetings with his work chums and meetings with the “Old Bastards Club” were outings he looked forward to. He will be missed at their gatherings. The family wishes to express our thanks to the nursing and medical staff, especially Cynthia, Didi, Emily and Krysten for the care, kindness and compassion provided to Arthur during his stay at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Visitation at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennel Avenue East on Sunday, May 27, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 11a.m. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
