Barbara Jagusic

Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Mike (2024). She leaves behind her only daughter and best friend Diane, adoring son in law Henry Marfisi and the greatest joys of her life, her grandchildren Christopher and Julianna. Also survived by sister in laws and brother in laws, Nevenka Protulipac, Danica and Ivan Cvitak and Ljubica and John Zefkic as well as Cousin Danica (Janko) Granic of Montreal and many beloved cousins in Croatia. She was predeceased by her parents Josip and Danica Maradin, brother Drago Maradin, as well her many beloved brother and sister in laws on the Jagusic family side. Barbara was also predeceased by dear friends Giovanni and Angela Marfisi.

Barbara came to Canada from Croatia in 1966 as a barely 17-year-old new bride of Mike, for a better life, leaving her own family behind in Croatia. Barbara worked for 40 years as a compassionate PSW for Rygiel Home, where she made several lifelong friendships. Her biggest joy was helping to raise her two adoring grandchildren and enjoying time with the family pets Oliver and Archie, who loved her so much. Barbara loved baking her delicious Croatian cakes and desserts and enjoying a good cup of coffee with family and friends.

Barbara treated everyone with kindness and compassion and had the biggest heart.

Special thank you the countless cousins, friends, family members, and neighbours for their visits, calls, meals and love. Also thank you to PSW’s Rosalie, Leovy and Maryann for the exceptional care of mom in her home. We are grateful for the kind and compassionate care Barbara always received from both Dr. Samawi and Dr. Beers and all the amazing staff we encountered at Juravinski Cancer Centre. Also thank you to the kind staff at St. Peter’s Hospital where Barbara spent her final days.

Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 5:30-9:00 p.m., with Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
