Catherine Anne Carey

20 December, 197010 October, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Carey on October 10, 2020 after a short but intense battle with cancer.

She leaves behind her loving partner of 23 years Stefan (Pieczora), her beloved parents John and Anne (Carey), and her cherished siblings Jennifer, James, and Christopher. She will also be greatly missed by her extended Carey, Kenny, and Pieczora families.

Catherine will also be missed by her work family, having spent the last 20 years of her career at the postal outlet at Dell - and eventually - Rexall pharmacies at Upper Ottawa and Fennell, in Hamilton.

Due to the current pandemic, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date, when more people are safely able to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Catherine’s name to either Juravinski Cancer Centre, or the Bob Kemp Hospice.

I’m so saddened to hear , Cath was one of my favourite people to spend my workday with for 18 years . I wish I could give her another hug ! It warms my heart that I was able to give her an unexpected hug in the post office that day to tell her how much I loved her . Sending love to her family .

Dear Anne, John and family,

I send you my love and prayers. I have such a nice memory of being at your home with
my husband, Mike. My mind conjures an image of Catherine and her friend, Stefan, seated together. The memory of her welcoming smile has remained with me throughout
the years.

Much love,

My sincere condolences to Catherine's, partner, families and friends. Cathy and I went to high school together. She was very unique and special and smiled with her eyes. Although we lost touch a number of years ago, i was thinking about her this summer as I drove by the house she lived in during high school..I have very many fond memories of Cathy. Smart and funny and up for almost anything. I am really sad to hear about her passing.

My sincerest condolences to Stefan and the Carey family, Cathy was an incredible woman I was privileged to have known.

Cathy and I spent many youthful years growing up and getting into mischief, Cathy always being the voice of reason, with her dry unique sense of humour. We were complete opposites, I loved sports and passed most of my classes:) She was brilliant excelling academically and I admired her. Grade 8 graduation at Chedoke School and then Grade 12 at MacNab, Cathy and I were friends through the years. Her love of all things Coca Cola and Boy George. Spending summers at my parents trailer and then cottage Cathy always had porcelain white Irish skin but willing to venture out in the sun and sand spending time with me and family. Summer time volunteering at Camp Kidaca, I somehow convinced her it would be fun, she was not impressed! Over the years we chatted frequently at the Rexall post office. Cathy you will be missed!

I extend heartfelt condolences to Stephan & the Carey family. I had the fortune of being Catherine's manager at Dell back in the 90's. She had an intellectual mind and keen sense of humour which I loved. I have such great memories of sharing laughter together. Somehow we became kindred spirits. She made a vast contribution to our company over the years. She was brilliant at her job and provided excellent competent service. She touched the lives of so many customers and employees at Dell. I was so very proud of her. Over the years, being kind & thoughtful she would keep in touch now and then. How it made my day to hear from her. Catherine will always hold a special place in my heart where her memory shines brightly. I loved her so...

Growing up, Catherine and I would beg our parents to let us have sleepovers all the time. I remember vivid things like her love of reading, her collection of Coca Cola items, and celebrating our birthdays together over the years. She was like a sister to us, as close as a cousin can be. I wish we could have reconnected more over the years. She will be greatly missed by her extended family as well.
