Loving mother of Sandra Daniel (Colin), Catherine James (Lee), and Julie Sajatovich. Proud Grandma and “Minger” of Victoria Bazinet (Keith), Evan James (Selena), Virginia Demain (Aaron), Christena James, Ryan James (Carlye), and Paul Daniel (Ashley). Cherished great-grandma of Daniel, Georgia, Charlotte, and Ezra.
She was predeceased by her parents James and Margaret MacDonald; her sisters Anne, Mary, Fran, Jeanette and Kate; and her brothers Vince, Angus, Jim, Alec, Greg, and John. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Helen, Margie, and Ken, along with many close family and friends.
Christena was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, in 1932. She began her career as a hairdresser and married the love of her life, Paul, in 1957. They moved to Toronto with their young family in 1962 and later made Hamilton their permanent home in 1987. In her later years, Christena worked at Helping Hands, but her greatest and most cherished role was caring for her family.
Chris was very funny, she was the Queen of quick comebacks and witty one-liners (Dad never had a chance). She could make anyone laugh, and her humor was matched only by her kindness. Every Saturday night was spoken for, as she and Paul were loyal (and talented) dancers at the local legion.
The world lost a legend, and heaven gained a woman who showed up in her Halloween costume. She never shied away from a good theme — whether it was an Elvis concert, a 50s sock hop, a disco, a princess party, or a rodeo, Christena was always all in.
The family wishes to thank the staff and her friends at Macassa Lodge for their compassionate care.
In accordance with her wishes, private family services and cremation have taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
