Predeceased by his parents Joseph (1957) & Barbara Sikora (2014), and in-laws Douglas (2020) and Beverly Broadribb (2013). Loving husband to Vicki Sikora and beloved father to Joelle Sikora. Dear brother to Mike Sikora (Cindy) of Victoria, BC, and brother-in-law to Doug Broadribb Jr. (Mary). Loved nephew of Fred Ellis and dear uncle to Allison, Taylor and Shane (Ally). Great-uncle to William and Noah. Dan was also survived by many wonderful cousins.
For 40+ years, Dan was a member of IBEW Local 105 and worked as a Journeyman Electrician. Upon completion of his apprenticeship in 1984, Dan received an award for the highest marks in his program at Mohawk College. Formally retiring in 2025, Dan spent majority of his days at home with Vicki and Joelle, where a rotation of sports was constantly playing on the TV. He was a lifelong fan of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Lions, Toronto Raptors, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
He also had many hobbies, including listening to music and attending numerous concerts over the years with Vicki. Dan enjoyed golfing, gardening and excelled at trivia. With his amazing memory and vast knowledge, he rarely got an answer wrong. As he so humbly put, “I know a little about a lot of things”. Above all else, you were always guaranteed a laugh when you were in Dan’s company. Known for his sharp wit and dry sense of humour, he is remembered by his ability to deliver perfectly timed one-liners which had everyone laughing. It was rare for Dan to go out and not know somebody, as he enjoyed using his humour and knowledge to connect with anybody and everybody. Whether you were his cab driver, his nurse, an apprentice at work, etc., he had a natural charisma and magnetism that always drew people in.
Football was a big part of Dan’s life, as he played during the 1970’s and early 80’s at Left Offensive Tackle for the Hamilton Hurricanes, Stoney Creek Patriots, and briefly with the Hamilton Wildcats. In 2009, a gala was held to announce the Hamilton Hurricanes All-Time All-Star Team, for which Dan was honoured to be selected for Offensive Line during the 1970-79 era. During his playing years, he was recognized with Stoney Creek Patriots Offensive Player Awards in 1979 and 1980, as well as an NFC All-Star Selection for Offensive Tackle for 1979 and 1981. To this day, Dan still keeps in contact with his former teammates and the friendships (along with the never-ending stories) that stemmed from this period of his life meant a lot to him.
For the majority of his life, Dan quietly lived with Polycystic Kidney Disease. On his birthday in 2006, he underwent a life-changing kidney transplant, an event we recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of. We are forever grateful. Family meant everything to Dan, as he attended all of Joelle’s activities over the years, including soccer games, karate tournaments, and even dance recitals. Just last month, Dan was able to see Joelle graduate from the University of Toronto. Within the last few years, Dan struggled with Parkinson’s Disease, at which time he found comfort in watching his favourite TV shows and sports.
Our family would like to sincerely thank Dan’s Nephrologist, Dr. Christine Ribic and the staff at the Renal Transplant Clinic in St. Joseph’s Hospital, as well as the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy for always taking such good care of Dan. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Special thanks to the Hamilton Paramedic and Hamilton Police Services for your compassion shown.
