I have so much respect for Denise and considered her a colleague, friend and mentor. She challenged me and deepened my understanding and knowledge of anti-Black racism and what it meant to be a leader in addressing this within the organizations that I worked. She was relentless in working to address health equity in all health care and education systems and she would always work to put the needs of clients at the front and centre of every single decision that she made. She will be missed.

To Denise family: I am so sorry about your loss. I met Denise about 15 years ago through work. I had the opportunity to work with her as a community partner. I kept in touch with Denise through the years and I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing... Although I did not see her often, I always looked forward to our meetings. She was such an inspiration. Kind, smart and funny. She had a gift for making people feel special. I loved to watch her interact with clients at Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Center where she was obviously a well loved and respected figure. I will miss her and I will treasure my memories of her.

I hope that you will find comfort knowing the difference that she made in people's lives and how much she will be missed.

With deepest sympathies,

JoAnne

The beautiful and kind Denise Brooks was one of the first people I met when I moved to Hamilton some years ago. She always believed in me, encouraged me and was my constant cheerleader. We shared so many laughs and stories. I am deeply saddened for Jesse and her extended family. Hamilton has lost an outstanding pillar of strength, intelligence, integrity and one of the best advocates for marginalized communities in the city. What a humble, gracious and impactful human being who has indeed left her mark. Love you my sister and to God be the glory.

Oh dear, it's so sad to say goodbye Denise.
The news of your passing into glory was sudden and shocking to many of us. As Executive Director of Hamilton Urban Core CHC, you often challenged your Staff to bring our professional and personal integrity (PPI) into our work ethics.
You will be greatly missed! As you always push for inclusiveness in our society. Similarly, you were noble in promoting standards and employing Staff from diverse cultural backgrounds- a feature that makes the organization stand unique.
May God show you compassion for you were compassionate. Adieu, a woman of valor!
Be consoled Jesse and may God in his infinite mercy grant your family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Wow!! Denise, the news of your departure was shocking to me. You were beautiful in and out. Very approachable, kind hearted, funny, and hardworking. You fought so hard for HUCCHC. It pains me that you didn’t get to see the new building.
I remember all your jokes whenever I came to your office to collect money for our group lottery tickets. You made me laugh so hard. Rest in Perfect peace Denise. May God comfort, strengthen and uphold your son. My condolence to your family. You will surely be missed!!

Denise, her sister Vicky and my sister Kim shared many adventures growing up. - having dinner on Sunday at our Grandmother Brooks’s home on Dufferin Street, getting dressed up for Easter Sunday, holding our younger siblings & later the next generation.

Recently, we got together with the future generation including Jesse, Braden, Nicole & Kelsey, to research our family history & look for ‘all the stories’ as Denise liked.

We will
miss that joyful laugh.
Love,
