Eileen Muriel Somerton

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Somerton on June 6, 2019 at the age of 78.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Somerton and her children; Debra Kobe (Trevor) and David Somerton, stepchildren; Dr. Anne Toth, John Somerton (Melissa) and Susan Manglimot, grandchildren; Suzanne, Brett, Chantelle, William, Paige, Savannah, Cole and Chandler. She was predeceased by her parents, Edith & Edward Sancartier and sister, Marion Mickelson (John).

Eileen was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She was born in Hudson, Ontario and lived in Sioux Lookout, Shakespeare, Niagara Falls, London and Hamilton, Ontario. She enjoyed walking her dogs, sailing, boating, fishing, playing basketball, gardening, cooking, entertaining, sewing, needlepoint, and knitting.

Eileen worked for the Town of Sioux Lookout and then moved to London, Ontario to work at Victoria Hospital where she met Dr. Kenneth Somerton and was a medical secretary and Office Manager in his practice for 40 years. She and Ken moved from London to Queens Garden Long Term Residence, Hamilton in 2014. Eileen was diagnosed with dementia and died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton. The family would like to thank the staff of Queens Garden Long Term Residence and St. Joseph’s Healthcare for all their wonderful care.

The family welcomes all to a visitation at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street E. (at Kenilworth) on Saturday, June 15th from 6-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 16th at 1pm in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception. Private family burial to take place at a later date.
