Eleanor May Evenden

Eleanor/Mom/Auntie/Nana/Gramma/Grandma/Great-Evenden/Great-Nana peacefully passed away at home in the Deerview Crossing Retirement Residence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in her 94th year. Predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Lillian Girard (nee Hewitt), and her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Evenden. Left to grieve her death and celebrate her life are her children - John (Karen), Paul (Debbie), Judith (Eleanor) – grand-children Melissa (Cole), Erik (Kelly), Rita (Timothy), Mary Beth (Kevin), Laura (Scott), and Levi, and great-grandchildren – Lily, Rachel, Cali, and Ruby, as well as nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. We offer our heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Mom particularly, in the 32 years following Dad’s sudden death. We are deeply grateful for the constant, loving care and companionship of Marion and Gary.

Mom/Eleanor was a dear friend to many of all ages and stages of life. She was an accomplished and sought after piano accompanist, a piano teacher to generations of students, a compassionate pastoral care giver, and a passionate purveyor of books and resources as the Director of the Hamilton Presbytery Resource Centre. She met the challenges of life head on, adapting to whatever circumstances she faced with faith, gratitude, and the resolve to live in the moment. She adjusted to whatever life offered and provided a model for us all. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories for all who knew and loved her.

We will gather at Cresmount Funeral Home – Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, on Friday, March 22, 2024 with visitation from 12-1 p.m. and funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. The link for livestreaming is available on the funeral home website. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. After the burial, all are invited to a reception at Mom’s home, in The Gathering Place, at Deerview Crossing Retirement Home, 460 Rymal Road West. Memorial donations to The Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, McMaster Children’s Hospital, or Wesley Urban Ministries, Hamilton, would be appreciated.
