MAGAKIAN, Gaidzag “Guy” – Passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Juravinski Hospital, in his 100th year. Beloved husband of the late Anahid (1991). Loving father of Kathy and Gary “Garo” and his wife Elena. Dear grandfather “Dede” of David and his wife Ashley and Andrea and her husband Chad. Loving great-grandpa “Dede” of Aurora. He will be lovingly remembered by his cousin, Takouhie Kakligian of Illinois, and his goddaughter, Anne Giragosian-Kersten (Galen) of Michigan.
Guy was predeceased by his parents, Garabed and Takouhie Magakian, and his sisters, Keghanoush Magakian and Satenig Giragosian.
Guy lived a long and fulfilling life. He was a hard worker and very meticulous with everything he did. He liked to keep busy even when he retired from Alexanians after 59 happy years at the “young” age of 90 and could often be found cutting his own lawn, shoveling his own driveway and tending to his garden. Guy had a passion for music and played in a band for most of his adult years. While most people his age struggled with technology, he embraced it and found much enjoyment on his computer. He was a strong and healthy person who was very devoted to his family.
The family will receive friends at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME, 615 Main St. E. (one block east of Sanford) on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 1-4 and 6-9 pm with prayers at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Marlatt Memorial Chapel on Monday at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Armenian Community Centre or St. Mary Armenian Church of Hamilton in Guy’s memory.
