Gary, son of the late Dennis Knight, was born on February 20, 1957 in Crawley Sussex, England. Gary moved to Canada with his family as a young boy and settled in the Hamilton and surrounding area.Gary is survived by his mother Georgina, brother Stephen, three children; Melanie, Ryan and Kyle as well as his son-in-law Sean and grandchildren Eric and Isaac.Gary attended Westdale high school and went onto Mohawk College for computer studies. This is where he first met Billie Zdriluk (nee Blazey). Gary and Billie divorced after 20 years of marriage but continued to be loving parents.
Gary took pleasure in watching Star Trek and war documentaries, playing computer games, smoking marijuana and cigarettes, drinking French Vanilla cappucinos and sharing his love for science, coin collecting and robotics with his family. Gary will always be remembered for his sarcastic and dry sense of humour, always wearing denim jeans and dress shirts with pockets, as well as his love and kindness towards animals. Gary will lovingly be remembered as the household bug rescuer, the expert shepherds pie and chili cook, as well as his ability to make sense of any math problem.
Gary fought hard for nine years while receiving kidney dialysis treatments at St Joseph’s hospital three days a week. Due to the injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident in the 1980’s, Gary was unfortunately not a candidate for a kidney transplant. Gary’s health and quality of life steadily declined as time went on and recently Gary made the tough decision to stop receiving dialysis, something he had been wrestling with for a number of years. Special thanks to the care team at the Nephrology Department where Gary received his treatments. The kindness and compassion that the staff on the seventh floor gave Gary and his family during his last days will always be treasured.
Gary took pride in his children and often bragged to anyone who would listen about how proud he was of them. Even though his declining health kept him from attending recent family events, Gary always wanted to know what the boys were up to and to see pictures. He may not have been able to live long and prosper but he was surrounded by the ones who loved him most. Gary will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Father, son, brother, friend. Always and forever in our hearts. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be live-streamed on Friday September 25 at 11:00am https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/17896.
