Born in Athens, Greece on November 28, 1932, to parents Yianni and Flora Mathioudakis. Beloved husband of 64 years to Niky Mathioudakis (nee Spyro). Loving father of John, Konstantino and Elias (Louie). Cherished grandfather of George, Savis, Niky, Yiorgio, Alexander and Callista. Dear brother of Frank and Irieni. Predeceased by Brothers Nick and Petro, and Sisters Maria, Anna, Eleni and Margareta
Immigrated to Canada from Milos, Greece in 1957. George Settled in Hamilton where he started a family, raising three boys with his wife Niky. He was a craftsman, renewing shoes, did wonderers with leather be it with the early hockey goalie pads, belts and other leather products. His business phrase was ‘we rebuilt your soles by renewing your shoes’. George donated countless hours supporting the Greek community of Hamilton by working tirelessly throughout the years. He loved making his home-made wine with his friends and relatives in his basement during the fall harvest season. He loved and was always ready for a serious good game of "31" a tradition on New Year's Eve’, sometimes lasting for hours and into the morning with a table filled with so many of his friends and family, and my mother preparing the snacks, hors d’oeuvre like to keep the minds sharp. I recall one New Year’s early morning while we were sleeping, he came into our bedroom parading on a pencil our pet budgie, apparently, he was winning some money.
George cherished being back on his homeland of Greece and could be found on the island of Milos during spring and summer, swimming, sipping ouzo and collection figs and cactus fruit of the trees. He would honor his father yearly by whitewashing our grandfather’s Farmhouse.
