Peacefully, at Wentworth Lodge on Friday, August 16, 2013, in her 94th year. Gertrude has been reunited with her husband Bill and her son Ted in a new and beautiful life, Eternity. Forever loved and remembered by her son Bill (Marlene) and daughter Catherine Winton. Adored grandmother of Kelley Butcher (Rob), Michelle Charles (Carson), Robert Winton, Ryan Winton (Amanda Kyte), Jonah Patterson, Ashley, Katie and Jenna Conlon and their mother Mandy (Kim). Sadly missed by great-grandchildren, Emily and Jordan Butcher, Jackson and Madi Charles and Grace Harvey/Winton. Special “aunt” to Sharon Coleman and the Cook family. Survived by her brothers Art, Syd (Lil) and Harry Bailey, sister-in-law Arlene Bailey (Jim) and many nieces and nephews in the McHugh-Bailey families. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred (Malvina), John (Vicki) and Edmund McHugh and Jim, Frank (Onlee), Stan (Eileen) and Edward (Marg) Bailey, sisters, Irene Bailey and Marg Dawson (Tom) and sisters-in-law Delores (Art) and Cecile (Harry). Gertrude had a long and healthy life and was an amazing woman. She started art classes when she was 64 years old and by her second year was helping the teacher instruct other students. At 75, she re-cemented her entire basement and black topped the driveway. Gertrude was very creative and enjoyed making the most amazing crafts. Well into her eighties, she still took the bus, once a week, to shop in her favourite store, Sears, at the Centre Mall. She was also a Lifetime Member of the C.W.L. Rest in peace, you’ve earned it. Visitation will be held at the Marlatt Funeral Home, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford), Hamilton, on Sunday, August 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rosary Sunday at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 714 King Street West, Hamilton, on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Hearing Society, the Lung Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association or the MS society would be appreciated. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas. On-line tributes may be made at www.marlattfhhamilton.com.
